Symphony of the Hills names new concertmaster

Posted: Wednesday, October 2, 2019 12:00 am

Concertmaster Philip Johnson says his new position is a welcome change of pace from all his other gigs.

He says a symphony orchestra is a complex musical instrument consisting of sections of instruments under the control of a conductor. An orchestra's string instruments make up five sections; first violin, second violin, viola, cello and base. Then there are four sections of woodwinds; flutes, oboes, clarinets and bassoons. Brass instruments include horns, trumpets, trombones and tubas.
