Since the Great Recession of 2008, public trust in American institutions of higher learning has plateaued. Just listen to the way we talk about education.

While either chatting with colleagues at the water cooler, or casually eavesdropping at the local coffee shop, or sitting among friends at a little-league baseball game, our conversations about the state of colleges and universities across our country focus almost exclusively on economic measures, outputs, and ends.
