JOURDANTON – Tivy senior Brady Delgado led the Antlers to a 5-3 win at Indian Field in Jourdanton Friday, going seven innings in the circle, allowing six hits and striking out five batters in Game 1 of a best-of-three Class 5A Region IV area-round series against Alamo Heights.

In addition to the heat thrown by Delgado, Tivy earned five runs on six hits.

The Antlers scored four runs in the first inning that began with a double by Travis White that plated Cooper Duennenberg and Walker Grimes. Braden Jaeger scored on a passed ball, and Coleson Abel singled on a line drive to left field to bring White across the plate.

The Mules earned two runs in the top of the third inning on a double and a centerfield single, bringing the score to 4-2.

Tivy earned a run in the bottom of the frame when Abel scored on an Alamo Heights pitcher error after reaching base on a double, giving the Antlers a 5-2 lead.

Heights tacked on another run in the top of the fifth inning, but never scored again.

The Antlers will return to Jourdanton on Saturday for Game 2 of the three-game series. Game time is 5 p.m.
