SAN ANTONIO -- The OLH Hawks lost to Texas Military Institute 13-3 in a Tuesday baseball game.

TMI dropped eight runs on OLH in the bottom of the opening frame.

Offensively, Watts scored the Hawks first run in the second inning. Watts singled, advanced to second on a throwing error, and to third on a ground ball by Mason Sirianni. Watts then scored on a wild pitch.

The Hawks scored two more runs in the top of the sixth when Wyatt Krause walked, stole second advanced to third on a fielder’s choice, and scored on a throw down as Martinez stole second. Martinez was driven home by Andrew Houdeshell’s double.

"We played pretty good baseball for four and one half innings. It is early in the season and we’re still playing without three former starters who are preparing to play in the state basketball tournament this weekend," said coach Dale Bode. "Even though the score looks bad, several players had solid performances. I was really impressed with freshman Evan Houdeshell’s presence on the mound. He pitched like a seasoned veteran against a solid TMI team. Although he struggled on the mound, Sam Watts helped solidify the defense as he moved to his more natural position behind the plate for fie innings."

Watts took the loss after coming off a stellar performance in relief during OLH's Saturday game at the Ozona Tournament.

Evan Houdeshell came on in relief in the first inning to get the final out and pitched into the fifth inning, allowing only one run on two hits. Sophomore Luke Martinez came on to pitch the sixth inning and also struggled to find the strike zone, walking four, and allowing two hits which resulted in four runs.

The Hawks (3-3) travel to Lockhart on Thursday, Feb. 28 to face San Marcos Home School.
