LLANO — Tivy ripped 13 hits and pitcher Kaitlyn Secor threw a shutout as the Lady Antlers rolled past Austin LBJ, 19-0, to claim a Class 5A Region IV bi-district title Friday night at Llano High School.

The Lady Antlers led by a single run off a sacrifice fly by Hannah Delgado after two innings, but an offensive explosion in the third saw 10 Tivy players cross the plate, threatening an early night for the Lady Jaguars.

“We’ve never faced this pitcher, so it took the first round to get used to what she was throwing,” Tivy coach Jeremy Hickman said. “The girls did a great job of talking to each other about what they were seeing, and they made the adjustments and started pounding the ball. We forced them to make plays and they didn’t make the plays.”

Tivy’s third-inning burst started when Marissa Medina connected on a triple to score Amber Pintsch and Lexi Callcott, and Delgado plated Medina and Cayla Wilson with a triple. Campbell Grona earned an RBI on a single, Pintsch followed with a ground-ball double to score Liz Twiss, Grona and Paige Melcher, and Medina blasted a three-RIB triple to right field.

The Lady Antlers brought the heat again in the top of the fourth inning, scoring eight runs on a two-out rally, then held Austin LBJ scoreless on their at-bat to end the game early.

“Lexi (Callcott) had a great night on defense,” Hickman said. “Marissa Medina had a great night at the plate, and Campbell Grona battled through two-strike counts to get us hits when we needed them. She’s had a great year and has really worked hard.”

Grona walked across the plate on a pitching error in the fourth, Callcott singled for an RBI, and Melcher scored when Medina reached base on balls. Hickman earned two RBIs on a double to left field, Delgado reached on a single to score Wilson, and Grona blasted a center field double to plate Delgado.

Medina finished the night 3-for-3 with five RBIs, Grona added three hits on four at-bats, earning two RBIs, and Delgado recorded four RBIs on two hits. Pintsch plated four runners on two hits.

Secor tossed 56 total pitches, 38 of which were strikes. She allowed a single hit and struck out seven batters.

“Kaitlyn pounded the zone all night,” Hickman said. “She was confident in the circle and did an excellent job.”

The Lady Antlers (23-10-2) will face Uvalde in area-round play next week. The time and dates will be determined on Monday and will be reported when available.
