SAN ANTONIO – The Lady Antlers battled for three innings, rallied in the fourth and walked away with a 10-6 win over San Antonio Veterans Memorial Friday night at Lady Patriot Field in District 26-5A action.

“Veterans Memorial was fighting for a playoff spot and they were hungry,” Coach Jeremy Hickman said. “They were amped up and we struggled to keep up early on, but by the fourth inning, we made our adjustments and took control.”

Doubles by Marissa Medina and Alyssa Hickman resulted in Tivy’s only run in the top of the first inning, but Veterans Memorial took a 2-1 lead by the end of the frame.

The Lady Antlers tied it up on their next at-bat, when Amber Pintsch belted a ground ball single that plated Liz Twiss.

The Lady Patriots extended their lead by two in the second inning to go ahead 4-2, which held until Tivy’s fourth inning, five-run burst

Paige Melcher kicked off the rally with an RBI single to center field. Lexi Callcott tripled to left field, scoring Medina and Melcher.

“Lexi had a huge hit for us at a crucial time in the game,” Hickman said. “She was poised and determined. She had two outs and took eight or nine pitches on that at-bat before hitting that triple and clearing the bases. I’m very proud of her. I believe the momentum in the game shifted in our favor on that at-bat.”

Medina doubled, scoring Callcott and Tivy was on top for for the the first time in the game with a score of 7-4.

Veterans Memorial answered with an RBI homer by freshman Ella Hutzler, threatening the Lady Antlers’ lead, which was now 7-6 to end the fourth inning of play.

Tivy’s Medina tripled in the sixth inning, scoring Pintsch. Hickman followed with an RBI home run over the center field fence to up the Lady Antlers’ lead to 10-6 and claim the win.

“The wind was blowing hard and at an odd angle,” Hickman said. “It was coming from right field toward third base, so our outfielders had to learn to adjust to it. It makes their home run and Alyssa’s even more impressive.”

The Lady Antlers recorded 10 hits on 32 at-bats, which included doubles and a homer by Hickman and triples by Callcott and Medina.

“This was a true team win up and down the roster,” Hickman said. “Every member of our team participated in this win, from getting hits, to makin defensive plays, to having each other’s back on the field. It was truly a great thing to watch.”

Pintsch went 3-for-4 on the night with one RBI. Medina ripped three on four at-bats with two RBIs. Hickman connected twice and earned three RBIs. Calcott earned three RBIs on a single hit.

Also recording hits for Tivy were Hannah Delgado, Twiss and Melcher.

Kaitlyn Secor tossed 107 pitches for 77 strikes, allowing 11 hits and striking out four batters.

"Kaitlyn pitched a great game," Hickman said.

With the win, the Lady Antlers expand their district lead and remain alone at the top of the District 25-5A standings with a 15-1 record. They are 21-9-2 on the season.

Tivy will travel to Boerne on Tuesday, where they will face Boerne Champion at 7 p.m., another team hungry for a playoff berth. Then on Thursday, the Lady Antlers will host San Antonio Harlandale for their final game of the regular season.
