Hard work and dedication paid off Friday night for a unified Lady Antler team, who will bring the District 26-5A championship trophy home for the first time in 20 years following a 10-1 softball win over Harlandale Thursday night at Lady Antler Field.

Tivy finishes their regular season with a 14-2 district record and will take an overall record of 22-10-2 into a Class 5A Region IV bi-district game against Austin LBJ at a time, date, and place to be determined.

Pitcher Kaitlyn Secor scattered nine hits among the Lady Indians' lineup, seven of which were singles along with two doubles. Secor struck out three and did not walk anyone. She was backed up by great defense which included a pair of double plays.

"It's hard to get one double play in softball, much less two," said Tivy head coach Jeremy Hickman.

in addition to those double plays and extra base hits, the Lady Antlers looked loose and relaxed despite what was on the line. The victory equates to an outright district title. A loss would have meant a playoff with Seguin to determine the order of seeding for the playoffs. Tivy enters post-season in the number one position and the Matadors will be the second seed.

"To tell you the truth it (district title) was something we didn't even talk about this week," said Hickman. "We just went out and had some great practices. We can only worry about us and our hard work paid off, but it's nothing we mentioned at all. I thought we hit the ball really well and played great defense. We were not tight at all."

Even when the Indians drew first blood with a pair of doubles that translated to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning, the Lady Antlers stayed their course.

Alyssa Hickman led off the bottom of the second by blasting a homerun 200 feet over centerfield, knotting the score 1-1. It was a precursor of things to come.

Tivy ran the score to 4-1 in the bottom of the third inning when Marissa Medina tripled in Paige Melcher and Amber Pintsch, then scored herself on a passed ball at the plate. The triple was one of three hits Medina had on the night, including a double and single. Medina also batted across four runs. Pintsch ripped three. Medina and Pintsch scored three runs each.

More runs came Tivy's way in the fifth inning when Lexi Callcott tripled in Pintsch. Callcott scored off Medina's single to make the score 6-1 before Harlandale finally forced an out. Hannah Delgado singled in Medina and Delgado scored when Lexi Perez singled making the score 8-1 in Tivy's favor before outs two and three. Perez ended with three hits and Delgado had two.

Medina's double brought in Pintsch with one out in the sixth inning, growing the score to 9-1 and Delgado singled in Medina for the team's final run.

Harlandale showed a threat in the top of the third with the score tied 1-1 and only one out, but Perez snagged a fly ball in right for out two before throwing to Delgado at first to complete a double play.

When the score was 4-1, the Indians put on another rally look by getting runners at first and second on back-to-back singles with only one out. Liz Twiss had an unassisted put out at third and threw to Delgado to get the second double play of the game for the Lady Antlers.

Working with defensive gems like thos helped Secor greatly.

After facing five batters each in the first couple of innings, Secor was able to retire the side in the third and fourth innings and faced only four Indians in the fifth, sixth and seventh.
