A Center Point Elementary School first grade teacher was placed on administrative leave and subsequently arrested and charged with Indecency with a Child by Sexual Contact.

Kerr County Sheriff Rusty Hierholzer said his department was contacted by CPISD Superintendent Cody Newcomb requesting assistance in investigating a complaint against teacher Russell Lynn Berry, 36.

“Our (KCSO) investigators conducted interviews with students who indicated inappropriate touching by Berry,” Hierholzer said. “Berry was also interviewed and confessed that he did, in fact, touch a student at CPISD in a sexual manner and that he had done so at a previous place of employment.”

Berry began working at CPISD in 2017 and had previously worked with the Northside Independent School District in San Antonio, according to Hierholzer.

Hierholzer said NISD were notified of Berry’s confession.

“Kerr County Sheriff’s Office investigators were able to gather enough evidence to charge Berry with the offense of Indecency with a Child by Sexual Contact,” Hierholzer said.

According to Hierholzer, an arrest warrant was obtained for Berry's arrest. Berry was arrested by the San Antonio Police Department on Nov. 7 at 1:30 p.m. on the Kerr County Charge.

The arrest was made after Berry was released by a San Antonio area hospital.
