City offering end-of-summer events

The first event, “Movies in the Park”, is the final free movie to be shown this summer at the Kerrville-Schreiner Park Amphitheater, Friday, Aug. 14.

The Kerrville Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting four end-of-summer events in August.

The first event, “Movies in the Park”, is the final free movie to be shown this summer at the Kerrville-Schreiner Park Amphitheater.

Bring the family out to watch “The Lego Movie,” sponsored by The Bosworth Company, on Friday, Aug. 14 beginning at 9 p.m. Load up the car and bring the kids, blankets, and a flashlight for a free evening outside at the movies.

Complimentary freshly popped popcorn will be served, and a limited concession stand will operate during the movie.

Please remember that glass containers are not permitted in the park. Entry to the park and movie is free.

The second event will be the following morning, Saturday, Aug. 15. The 20th annual “Kids Off-Road Triathlon,” sponsored by Hill Country Bike Works will begin at 9 a.m. at Singing Wind Park.

All children ages Pre-K-18 are welcome to participate. Athletes will be grouped according to their age and each group will swim, bike, and run various age-appropriate distances.

The course map and age division distances are available online on the Parks and Recreation Department webpage of the city website.

Pre-registration for this event will be held at the Parks and Recreation Department located at Kerrville-Schreiner Park, 2385 Bandera Highway or online at www.kerrvilletx.gov.

On-site registration will be available beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Aug. 15.

The $15 entrance fee includes a t-shirt, water bottle, and the opportunity to win a number of great door prizes.

The third event, “Wet N’ Wag,” will be held on the same Saturday, Aug. 15, at Singing Wind Park from 5-7 p.m.

Bring your swimsuit and favorite friendly four-legged pal to play for free in the refreshing Olympic Pool.

Current proof of rabies vaccination is required upon registration.

“This event is held after the pool closes for the season,” said Ashlea Boyle, Special Projects manager. “This is a fun way to spend some quality time with your dog. You could make a day of it by enjoying the new Dog Park and then the Wet N’ Wag event. Fido will have a great time swimming and meeting other pups.”

There will be doggie treats and free giveaways at this event.

Registration is now open online or in person at the Parks and Recreation Department. On-site registration will be available at the Olympic Pool prior to the event.

Kerr County Animal Shelter, Pet Supply Plus, Dogologie of Fredericksburg, and H-E-B will be sponsoring this event.

The annual NFL sponsored “Punt, Pass, and Kick” competition will be held Saturday, Aug. 22 at 9 a.m. at the Kerrville ISD Antler Stadium.

This is a free event open for boys and girls ages 6-15 years to show off their football skills and a chance to advance in this national competition.

No cleats are allowed, and a birth certificate is required upon registration.

This event will be held in conjunction with the local YMCA skills assessment and football registration.

For additional information, contact Ashlea Boyle, Special Projects manager at 258-1153, via e-mail to ashlea.boyle@kerrvilletx.gov, or visit the city’s website at www.kerrvilletx.gov.
