This week’s children’s activities

Don't try this at home! This trio of young artists at Riverside Nature Center practiced making art by burning string on paper, using a magnifying glass in the sun instead of the lighter the teacher had. Lauren Pruitt, 8; Trei Gohlke, 10; and Joli Parker, 7, were trying to reproduce patterns on the paper similar to those of Chinese artist Cai Guo Qiang. He's known for using gunpowder and fireworks on large art pieces.
