To the editor:
My morning has been redirected from useful patient care to useless peer-to-peer review with physicians who no longer engage in patient care but are hired guns of the insurance industry to deny and restrict care. This is becoming an epidemic as more and more Medicare recipients are relinquishing their Medicare Part B benefits to the commercial insurance industry as they enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan.
During this time of open enrollment, please be aware that you no longer have access to traditional Medicare benefits when you enroll in these plans.
Your local doctor’s discretion will become subject to the approval of out-of-state doctors hired by the insurance industry to dictate your care. Several of my colleagues in primary care have stopped accepting Medicare Advantage plans.
