To the editor:

For those who do not know me, I am a working citizen of Kerr County since 1969. I am blessed with four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. I am a widow of nine years who was married to a man who defined the word integrity, Edward A. North.

What people may not know is he was a deputy of Kerr County after serving several years in San Antonio as a part of the Drug Interaction Force. Carol Twiss, in becoming a deputy, was assigned with Ed as his partner.

When a law enforcement wife tells her husband goodbye everyday, she may not know if it will be her last goodbye. It was comforting to hear Ed say he trusted Carol with his life, saying, “She has my back. She is a good officer.” He always would tell me she was an asset to the department. We need more people like her in law enforcement.

Still having his back, Carol was with Ed as he drew his last breath. Fast forward nine years and Ed’s words still ring true. Carol not only has the education and experience to serve as sheriff, but all the while maintains compassion. Even with her busy schedule, she checks in on me and my family. I told her it was not necessary and her response to me was, “Ed would have wanted it that way; he had my back.”

I hope the citizens of Kerr County will join with me and vote for Carol Twiss for sheriff in the Republican Primary. She will have our backs.
