To the editor:

Who are we, the people?

As I watched the life celebration of President George H. W. Bush, I wondered who ARE we, the people he served so long and so well?

For answers, I considered the flags, lowered in his honor:

We are citizens of a democracy. We are democrats. We pledge allegiance to a republic. We are republicans. We declare ourselves indivisible, under God, with liberty and justice for all.

So we the people are democratic, republican, indivisible, faithful, just and libertarian AMERICANS.

Perhaps the best way to honor President Bush’s extraordinary legacy is by BEING who, with hands over our hearts, we say we are.
